“I think marijuana should be legal and it should be taxed.”
In a recent episode of the wrestling podcast, Grilling JR, long-time wrestling commentator Jim Ross said World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) was “ahead of the curve” with respect to cannabis reform.
In 2008, WWE reformed its approach to cannabis and opted to test wrestlers for the substance just once per year.

Cannabis Company Gets Lease for Extraction Facility in Central Edmonton

A cannabis extraction plant is slated to open in central Edmonton as edible products continue to work their way into the legal marketplace.
Edmonton-based Token Naturals recently announced it has secured a long-term lease on an 8,300-square-foot facility in a 60,000-square-foot industrial lot, with the hopes of constructing an operation with the ability to process up to 65,000 kilograms of dried flower into cannabis extract each year.
Keenan Pascal, CEO of Token Naturals, said securing the lease is a milestone for the company that focuses on working with local producers to create different extract products. The lease of the space off Yellowhead Trail will also help the company move forward with its Health Canada application to sell and process cannabis.

Retailers Left in a Haze as New Cannabis Promotion Rules Announced

A hazy rollout of new rules surrounding the promotion of cannabis products has left some Edmonton-area retailers feeling perplexed.
Starting on Oct. 17, any public advertisement for cannabis products or retailers can legally have a surface area no larger than 300 square centimetres — though it remains unclear what exactly this restriction applies to.
For reference, the surface area of a standard piece of printer paper is just over 600 sq. cm.
The new regulations were finalized by Health Canada in June. On Monday, the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) sent a bulletin to retailers in the province to inform them of the new rules.

‘You Don’t Have to Be a Super-skilled Hacker’: Challenges Abound to Secure Online Cannabis Sales in Alberta

As cannabis sales in Alberta top the country, a Calgary professor says online sales could pose new challenges for countering fraudulent IDs and securing consumer data.
Currently, only Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis is permitted to sell cannabis online in Alberta.
But as the private sector plans to enter the market, verifying a customer’s identity online becomes a lot more difficult, said Thomas Keenan, a professor focused on data and cyber security in the University of Calgary’s School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape.
“People expect they can go on Amazon.ca and buy an Instant Pot, and people have the same expectation of other services,” said Keenan in an August interview with Postmedia. “So people’s expectation is that marijuana will be the same as the Instant Pot, and the challenge is to make sure there are regulations and that you have good proof of age.”

Cannabis shops have started selling marijuana seeds as the coming summer brings the first legal growing season for pot smokers looking for a home-grown high.
The legalization of cannabis last October included the option for private citizens to grow plants at home, but seeds weren’t available from distributors in Alberta until last month. Seeds are now available through Fire and Flower Cannabis online and at their location in Sherwood Park as well as at Nova Cannabis in Edmonton.
Jayden Colwell, a first-time grower, expects to get eight ounces worth of smokable marijuana once he harvests the plants he’s growing in his Calgary home.
“If you can get a tomato plant to grow, you can get a cannabis plant to grow,” said Colwell. “They call it weed for a reason, it’s fairly easy.”
