The number of cancer patients using medical cannabis climbed about seven points between 2007 and 2016.
About of third of cancer patients taking part in a University of Alberta-affiliated study report using medical cannabis, a percentage that climbed about seven points between 2007 and 2016.
“Within this study cohort of Canadian adults with current cancer diagnosis, cannabis use is not uncommon,” conclude authors of the study published this month in Expert Reviews in Pharmacoeconomics & Outcome Research.

A new U.S. mice study offers promise for advancing understanding of how cannabis can help lessen the symptoms of various bowel conditions, insight that could lead to new ways of fighting gastrointestinal (GI) infections.
Published online this month in Cell, the study led by the University of Texas, Southwestern (UTSW) shed light on how the body’s endocannabinoids, which share features with chemicals found in cannabis, “can shut down genes needed for some pathogenic intestinal bacteria to colonize, multiply and cause disease.”

Eight In 10 Migraine Sufferers Report Cannabis Helped Beat Back Pain Levels: Study
Thirty per cent of U.S. app users have turned to cannabis for relief.
Almost a third of polled migraine sufferers in the U.S. have turned to medical marijuana for relief and the vast majority of those who did report that cannabis and cannabinoids have helped to reduce related pain levels.
The findings reflect data gathered from the Migraine Buddy app — a global app that allows users to record data about migraine duration, frequency and intensity, medication use and details about sleep, dietary and weather-related triggers — and is produced by U.S.-based Healint. In all, information is based on 9,885 app users in the U.S. and Canada.
