Mexico’s Chamber of Deputies voted to approve an amended marijuana legalization bill, sending it back to the Senate, which passed an earlier version late last year.

A new Marijuana Moment analysis shows that while marijuana legalization has been largely driven by Democratic lawmakers and voters, that’s starting to shift. Republican legislators in at least 10 states have sponsored bills to legalize cannabis this year.

New York’s Assembly majority leader said marijuana legalization negotiations with Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) have become so contentious that they’ve reached the point of screaming.

The Drug Enforcement Administration is being sued by a doctor who wants permission to give psilocybin mushrooms to terminally ill cancer patients.

A marijuana legalization bill sponsored by Wyoming’s Republican House speaker and Judiciary Committee chairman is expected to get a hearing this week.

The Mississippi House of Representatives killed a Senate bill to create an alternate medical marijuana program—appearing to leave the issue’s fate up to the state Supreme Court, which is weighing a challenge to the cannabis ballot measure that voters approved in November—but then the Senate inserted its language into an unrelated bill, keeping the matter alive.

The Government Accountability Office conducted a review of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s final hemp rules.

Customs and Border Protection sent a press release on the “concealment methods criminals use to peddle their drugs.”

A former U.S. attorney for the Western District of Washington authored an op-ed on the need to decriminalize drugs.

Reps. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), Bobby Scott (D-VA), Kelly Armstrong (R-ND) and Don Bacon (R-NE) introduced a bill to eliminate the sentencing disparity between crack and powder cocaine.

Former Rep. Denver Riggleman (R-VA) tweeted, “If Virginia had a primary, I would be the #VA05 Rep. For the record, I voted for SAFE, STATES and MORE Acts. I’m on the board of the Veteran’s Cannabis Project. This @RepBobGood letter [urging a veto of a marijuana legalization bill] is amateurish and over-wrong. I own a distillery. I already deal in controlled substances.”

A spokesperson for New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) said she supports an amended House-passed marijuana legalization bill “as the path forward for a compromise cannabis legalization bill that addresses varied concerns that have been presented and is hopeful senators will move quickly to adopt and advance them.”

Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts (R) and other officials held a press conference to express opposition to marijuana reform ahead of a Judiciary Committee hearing on a bill to legalize medical cannabis.

Texas’s lieutenant governor said, “They must have legalized marijuana in the White House and they’re all smoking it, because these people are clueless.”

New Jersey’s attorney general issued an updated FAQ about the state’s new marijuana laws.

The South Dakota House and Senate failed to reconcile the differences in legislation to delay and implement the voter-approved legalization of medical cannabis, meaning that the ballot measure will take effect as written. Separately, activists formally appealed a judge’s ruling that invalidated the separate marijuana legalization initiative, asking the state Supreme Court to take up the case.

Montana’s House majority leader said a recreational marijuana framework bill will likely go before a committee in the next 10 days.

Arkansas’s House speaker filled a vacancy on the Medical Marijuana Commission.

Florida Senate Democrats tweeted, “The state’s medical marijuana program has had opponents in the Republican-led Legislature ever since Floridians overwhelmingly approved a constitutional amendment in 2016 to allow medicinal use of the drug. Some things never change.”

The Tennessee House Criminal Justice Subcommittee approved a proposed constitutional amendment to block the legalization of marijuana or other drugs.

The Alabama House Judiciary Committee held a hearing on a Senate-passed medical cannabis bill but will wait until next week to consider votes and amendments.

The Illinois Senate Executive Committee is creating a new subcommittee on cannabis. Separately, a representative filed a bill to strengthen conflict of interest policies to prevent lawmakers, regulators and their families from profiting off the marijuana industry.

A Guam senator introduced a bill to require candidates for public office to take drug tests.

A Pennsylvania representative posted a video meant to combat “several myths and misconceptions surrounding adult-use cannabis.”

Georgia regulators released a list of approved hemp processors.

Colorado’s Retail Marijuana Public Health Advisory Committee will meet on Monday.

Alaska regulators will consider the marijuana fine schedule on March 18.
