The House of Representatives approved a bill to federally legalize marijuana, expunge records, create a federal cannabis excise tax and fund programs to repair the harms of the war on drugs.

Top lawmakers and organizations—including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and the ACLU—weighed  in on the House’s passage of a federal marijuana legalization bill.

Committees in Mexico’s Chamber of Deputies took up a Senate-passed marijuana legalization bill over the weekend. The country’s Supreme Court has given lawmakers a December 15 deadline to end cannabis prohibition.

The federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality is asking the public to help compile research on the role of marijuana and kratom in treating chronic pain. Notably, the agency, which is part of the Department of Health and Human Services, acknowledges that the “recent legalization of cannabis by several states may lead to more, and higher quality, research.”

The National Basketball Association won’t drug test players for marijuana next year, and basketball insiders believe a permanent cannabis policy change is in the works for the league.


President Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani claimed that a judge’s ruling in a case on damaged ballots in a close vote on allowing marijuana businesses in Central Lake, Michigan gives a boost to his effort to overturn the results of the presidential election.

The Drug Enforcement Administration posted a marijuana FAQ for young people.

Reps. Barbara Lee (D-CA) and Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) coauthored an op-ed about ending federal marijuana prohibition.

Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) coauthored an op-ed with Baltimore, Maryland’s state’s attorney on the need to legalize marijuana.

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy (D) and legislative leaders reached an agreement on a marijuana legalization implementation bill.

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown’s (D) budget proposed delaying the flow of marijuana revenue to fund drug treatment services as required under the state’s voter-approved drug decriminalization law.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D latest coronavirus order continues to deem cannabis businesses to be essential services.

Pennsylvania’s lieutenant governor said he thinks President Trump would have won reelection if he had endorsed legalizing marijuana.

South Dakota’s attorney general asked a court to dismiss a lawsuit challenging the state’s voter-approved marijuana legalization law. Meanwhile, officials with the pro-legalization campaign were granted permission to intervene in the case. Separately, the  Legislature’s Rules Review Committee will consider proposed hemp rules on Monday.

Arizona regulators posted information about the implementation of the state’s voter-approved marijuana legalization law.

Vermont regulators are accepting 2021 hemp applications.

Illinois regulators published updated medical cannabis patient and business data.

Oklahoma regulators reported updated medical cannabis tax revenue figures.

Alaska regulators published a FAQ about marijuana curbside pickup.
