Coronavirus: Cannabis Retailers Plead With Ontario To Allow Reopening In Lockdown Zones
They’re considered essential but you will not find anyone inside pot shops in Toronto and Peel Region, the provinces two lockdown zones.
“All we’re asking for is an opportunity to do right by our customers in the community, have a consistent playing field and, you know, honestly, if the government was running cannabis stores, I wonder if they’d be open today like the liquor and beer stores,” said Sam Vanverveer, the vice-president at Sessions Cannabis in Toronto.
The cannabis industry is reaching out to the province asking elected officials to reconsider shuttering storefronts. Only curbside pickup and delivery is available during the 28-day lockdown period — unlike the LCBO, which is also deemed essential where a customer can walk into a retail store.

New Zealanders voted to legalize euthanasia in a binding referendum, but preliminary results released Friday showed they likely would not legalize marijuana.
With about 83 per cent of votes counted, New Zealanders emphatically endorsed the euthanasia measure with 65 per cent voting in favour and 34 per cent voting against.
The “No” vote on marijuana was much closer, with 53 per cent voting against legalizing the drug for recreational use and 46 per cent voting in favour. That left open a slight chance the measure could still pass once all special votes were counted next week, although it would require a huge swing.

is being asked to amend its smoking bylaw by one of the town’s biggest employers.
Canopy Growth is asking town council to relax the rules so it can allowing cannabis smoking and vaping at its plant, all in the name of research.
“For over eight years we’ve had a smoking bylaw in town to make sure we protect our public from second hand smoke, to try to discourage smoking in public places overall,” explained Shawn Pankow, mayor of Smiths Falls.
“When that was designed we didn’t really anticipate something down the road (like) a company like Canopy saying, ‘Well, we want to do some medical research.’”
